DHL Doggy
My dog is a carrier. And by carrier, I do not mean carrier of some mutant gene that shows up in every-other generation. I mean he literally carries things. He has an obsession with picking up things on the ground and carrying them during our walks. This habit concerned me for a while. I was worried that whatever he picked up off the ground he would ingest. And since he likes to pick up things like rocks, dead worms, petrified pieces of dog poo and sprigs of possibly poisonous berries I had reason to worry. After a while I realized that he wasn’t actually eating these things. He was simply picking them up and carrying them. He will carry the item for about 30 seconds and then spit it out. I guess he gets bored with it or something. Today he actually carried someones ABC gum halfway around the complex before I saw him spit it out. Gross. Yesterday I had to forcibly remove a dirt clod from his mouth or he would have brought it right into our apartment! I am going to try to turn this habit into something positive. I could train him to carry my things in his mouth. Like my cell phone, the mail, or the little plastic bag that I use to pick up his poo. On the brighter side, we don’t live in the ghetto of Detroit. Then I’d have to worry about him carrying crack needles and 12 year-old prostitutes into our apartment.
