Just Call Me Jungle Julie

I had another run in with nature today, I think you’ll remember the last run in. Remember the snake post? Which by the way, I’m understanding that this was not a smart move as a common poisonous Texas snake is also brown and small.

Anyway.  Today’s creature was sticky, small, cute, and is also the CEO of a popular insurance company.  It was a Gecko!  Sweet.  T spotted him (I automatically assume that all wild creatures are male) on the wall.

Can you see him?

Luckily T is a very observant guy.  This gecko probably would have chilled on our wall for months before I would have even noticed him.  I grabbed my camera and got all up in his face.  I had to see what he looked like up close.

Pretty sweet looking.  He is almost see through.  T figured that we should catch him and release him back into the wild.  And by wild, I mean the perfectly manicured lawn outside our apartment door.  Close enough.

I put a glass bowl over him and slipped a paper underneath him.  See…

He looks pretty pissed right now.  It’s moments like this that I’m really glad that I bought these glass bowls.  Otherwise-this would be a really boring picture that I would have titled:  “You Can’t See, but the Gecko is Under the Bowl.”  Lame.

I took him outside and readied for the release.

But since I’ve never seen one of these buggers before, I wanted to hold him and get a really good look.

catch

I was like the Gecko Whisperer here.  Can’t you tell.

We were totally Bff’s.  Until he jumped off my finger and Hurley attempted to eat him.  Luckily he got away without any harm.  I’m sure that his gecko family was happy to see him.

I did a little research on geckos.  And by research, I mean that I typed the word ‘gecko’ into Wikipedia.  I found out that this little guy is appropriately known as a House Gecko.  Check out his twin here:

House geckos are normally welcome house guests as they eat pests like mosquitoes!  I hate mosquitoes so much that I think I might put a “Welcome Geckos” sign on our door.  But it would have to be really small and I’d have to hang it near the bottom so they could read it.

Happy freakin’ Friday everyone!  Hope your week went by as quickly as mine did.  :)
