It’s Just My Thing

Photography that is…

For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved taking photos.  My Mom would tell you that I love being in photos, but I like to think that I like taking them more.  Maybe.  I don’t really know why, it’s just my thing.  Some people read, or knit, or watch porn.  I take photos.  I could think of worse vices to have.  I’m glad that I have an affinity for photography as I find it wonderful to have so many pictures from so many different events.  It’s so much fun to look through my pictures from years ago or pictures from yesterday.  Since I’ve owned a digital camera, I’ve taken more and more pictures.  Digital cameras are seriously one of the greatest things ever invented, EVER!  And boy have they come a long way since they were first built in 1975.  Btw, it had a whopping capacity of .01 mega pixels and took 23 seconds to capture an image.  If any of you are interested, I use Picasa to organize all my photos.  It’s a free program by Google and it’s super easy to use.  It doesn’t allow for much altering of your photos, but that’s OK.  I have a dream to someday be a good photographer and know how to use PhotoShop like a pro.  I need to find a weekend class and get a crash course.  I really do need to do that since I have a wonderful camera and haven’t taken it off of Auto mode ever!  Although a recent PostSecret card made me feel a little better about my lack of knowledge:

There’s still hope for me.  :)

Over the past few years I’ve tried to start capturing more unique pictures.  I try to take pictures from different angles or in unique poses or interesting places.  I pretend like I’m an artsy-fartsy photographer trying to get a different picture.  Sometimes I’m able to accomplish this goal.

Like this picture…

Porcupine

This picture isn’t the greatest, but I think that it’s an interesting look of a porcupine at the Houston Zoo.  I like how just his face is in the pic.  Not too shabby I guess.

Here’s one of Hurley that I thought turned out kinda cool…

Hurley Bowl

And don’t forget about the PEOPLE!  I not only love taking pics of animals, but I love taking pics of people.  I think they make wonderful memories for everyone to look back on.  Let me see if I can find a cool one with some people.

Aiden and Josh

I think that this was a rather unique pose.  Mabye I should be a children’s photographer.  Now, come on…If that picture didn’t make you laugh you must have a awful sense of humor or a heart of stone.  It’s not the best quality picture, but it’s really the subject matter that is what makes a good photo.

Since moving to Houston, T and I have been able to do lots of things that have opened the door for many new and exciting photo opportunities.  The following picture was taken at a put-put golf course in Galveston.  And although I like to think that I’m getting much better photography this picture makes me realize how much farther I have to go.  I want to be that artsy-fartsy photog who is able to capture unique and fun pictures.  Ya wanna see…really?  OK.

Fire Ant

Now….well….it’s…umm…

Ok, at the time-I thought that this would be a neat angle to capture T golfing.  It wasn’t until I was looking at my pictures on the computer that I realized that I had made a mistake.  A horrible, strange, uncomfortable, mistake.  You probably feel a little awkward just looking at this picture.  I’m sorry.  But I wanted to share.  I guess I need to work on my angles.

And no we weren’t golfing at some sort of porn themed course.  It was Magic Forest or something like that and the grotesque, red, thing in the picture is actually a Fire Ant.

I swear!
