B-Rad

Today I want to shine a little spotlight on my BIL B-rad.  B-rad is professor at Edinboro University in Pennsylvania.  He teaches art.  Now, that is a horrible thing for me to say because I know that his subject matter isn’t referred to as ‘art.’  It’s probably like computer aided-graphic-claymation-something or other.  B-rad, what is it that you teach exactly?  Whatever it is…he’s an artist.  I’ve known him for a very-very long time and have always been amazed at the talent that he has.  I used to want to be an artist because of him and would spend my free time drawing, coloring, whatever.  I thought he was just soooo cool.  (Not that I don’t think that you’re still cool.)

B-rad has just returned from a trip to New York where his short film won first place at the Brooklyn International Film Festival.  It won the “Best Animation” award.  The film was created by B-rad with the help of some of his students.

*B-rads character is the one on the right with the ungodly amount of facial hair.

24 Frames is a claymation-stop motion film about a group of students making a claymation-stop motion film.  Clever, right?  And although I really am clueless about the film/animation industry I still think that it’s awesome for him to come home with such a big win at such a big film festival.  Check out the “Fans of 24 Frames” group on Facebook.  Just search for that group name and it should come up.

You can watch a couple videos with B-rad and learn about what’s happening with the film.  And of course…you can contact him if you would like to purchase the DVD.  He’s probably going to be really famous someday so jump on the band wagon now so that you can be all like, yeah I was his fan before it was even cool to be a fan of his.  Kwim?

Here’s a little something that B-rad sent out that might help you grasp the magnitude of this win a little bit since I’m doing a horrible job of explaing all this stuff:

  • As you know, I just returned from New York City where I attended the 11th annual Brooklyn International Film Festival. I saw a lot of cool films and ate a lot of good food. But the highlight of the trip was at the awards ceremony when it was announced that “24 Frames” had won the coveted “Best Animation” award, beating out such heavyweight competition as Bill Plympton’s “Hot Dog” and Signe Baumane’s “The Teat Beat of Sex”.This is a big win for the film; the Brooklyn Int’l Film Festival is the second largest film festival in NYC, behind Tribeca, and it got the film some important recognition. Most notably by festival juror, 15-year NYU film professor, and recent author of “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Digital Video”, Karl Bardosh, who I conversed with on the subway after the ceremony. He said, “If the school you work for is smart, they will recognize you and use this win to promote the program.”

Congrats B-rad!!!!

And please make a claymation mini-me for me to put on my desk at work.  Ya know…in your spare time.  :)
