Spice Up Your Life
Wasn’t that a Spice Girls song? It was.
I was pretending like I kinda thought it might be, but I didn’t know. I could probably sing every single song on that CD. So could my friend Jessica. She was obsessed.
Anyways….this post isn’t about the Spice Girls. It’s about being old. I’m back to work today after a wonderful, fun weekend in Michigan. Sure our luggage is MIA and we’re dead tired, but it was fun. Now, back to the grind of my old folks. I’m actually at work (Shh…don’t tell) and getting ready to go teach a mental aerobics class. Similar to a physical aerobics, but for your brain. Use it or lose it…that’s my mantra. I have a bunch of books that have little activities in them that you can do to stimulate the brain. I found this particular article that I would like to share. And maybe you can utilize these trips to add a little spice to your life. Now remember that these are specifically for people over the age of 169.
1. Try to come up with a more distinctive signature.
2. Test drive a car you’d probably never buy. (Now, that’s not a bad idea)
3. Contact an old friend from your past. (If they haven’t all died already) (wow, that was mean)
4. Record a new message on your answering machine such as “Hello? Hello? Is anybody there?” or sing a tune instead of speaking.
5. Try a veggie or fruit that’s new to you such as kale, arugula, or papaya.
6. Buy a bottle of bubbles and blow bubbles with a friend, neighbor, or pet.
7. Drink a bottle of soda and have a burping contest with a friend.
8. Stick some bottle caps on the soles or an old pair of shoes, and tap dance on a hard surface. (LOL)
9. Blow on dandelions and spread the seeds far and wide. (Remember: far and wide)
10. Eat lunch at a place you’ve never eaten at before.
11. Collect wind-up toys.
12. Teach yourself to play the spoons. (My personal favorite)
So….implement a few of these techniques and you’ll soon find yourself living a life of excitement and fun.
I’m really hoping I can occupy myself when I get old. Without having to take up playing kitchen utensils or tap dancing with bottle caps on my shoes.
