Best of Intentions

I have all intentions of being a frugal, thrifty shopper.  I want to save money, really I do.  But I honestly feel like I need to take a college course on it.  Frugality 101.  The type of shopping I’m talking about is household shopping (groceries, toiletries, cleaning supplies, crap like that).  I do have a habit of spending too much money on other stuff that I don’t need (shoes, home decor, cloting, nail polish, etc.), but I don’t really see that as a problem.  :)

I have never been one to look through ad’s and compare prices.  I always say that with just T and me here, I don’t spend a lot of money on groceries, but the truth is…I do.  Two people go through a lot of food and supplies over the course of a week.  I usually go grocery shopping once a week, which is a pain.  And I always spend more money than what I think I should be spending.  And I have a horrible habit of cutting coupons and then not using them.  I am torn when it comes to cutting coupons.  Pun intended.  I always feel that looking through the coupons will make me want to buy something that I probably don’t need, just because I have a coupon for it.  So I try to cut the coupons for stuff that I already buy, which is a good thinkg.  But then when I go to the store I always forget to use the dang things!  I just feel like I need some guidance on this issue.  I suppose it’s not a big deal right now, with just me and T (usually just me).  But someday when I have kids and pets galore, I will really need to learn how to shop on the cheap.

So as of today I’m taking on the task of being a smarter shoper.  I’m going to do some research on the Internet and get some tips and tricks from other frugal shoppers.  I always like to research things and this won’t be any different.  I do need to do some grocery shopping today and I will try to use at least one of the coupons that have been stuck on my fridge for three months.

Any of you out there have any tips or advice you want to share?  Any sites or blogs about shopping that you would recommend?

I’ll keep you posted on my new quest.

I know…I know.  You’re thinking, “Come on Julie!  Where’s the humor?  Where’s the insults?”  I would have done a more formal and crude blog post, but I spent the majority of my night trying to figure out how to change my picture.  My other pic was from a long time ago, so I just thought I needed to update it.  I just pretend to know a lot about computers and coding and all that crap.  I really have no idea.  But seriously…it was a big accomplishment when I finally figured it out!  And now I have a headache from all the thinking that was involved.  You probably didn’t even notice it did you?
