Man Trip Update (End of Day 5/Day6)
Man Trip is still in full force. It seems as if they’ve been gone for weeks! Sure they’ve only been gone since last Tuesday, but it seems much longer. And my jealousy is still building. But sooner or later it will come to and end and their vacation will be over. But that won’t truly be the end. I’ll have to deal with the secret inside jokes that they came up with during the trip, and the constant reminiscing about how ‘sweet’ their trip was. But by this time next year…the memories will have faded. Hopefully!
Let’s recap on MT ‘08:
8/12:
- Drove past Phoenix, AZ (Main day of travel)
8/13:
- Toured the Hoover Dam
- Made it to Las Vegas and checked in at the MGM Grand Hotel
- Enjoyed an amazing Cirque Du Soleil show that evening.
8/14:
- Day 2 in the City of Sin
- Did the tourist thing in Las Vegas (M&M Store, Magic Show, Game Works, etc.)
- Went to “Tournament of Kings” for a dinner show and had a great time.
- Did some more touristy stuff in Las Vegas. Slept.
8/15:
- Checked out of the MGM Grand Hotel. Waved goodbye to Sin City.
- Drove to the Grand Canyon. Did the Skywalk tour thing.
- Checked into their campsite. Pitched tent. Roasted weenies.
- Endured a night long thunderstorm. Likened their tent to a water bed.
- The next day they did some hiking in the Canyon and decided against camping the second night.
- Continued on the high way, headed towards Roswell, NM. *This is the starting point for today’s post*
Day 5 Continued:
- Made it to Roswell about 12:30 p.m. Checked into a Holiday Express. Went to bed.
- Noted that the drive from Albuquerque, New Mexico to Roswell was the ‘creepiest’ drive ever. It was pitch black with no other lights in sight. They did pass a car every once in a while, but for the most part it was freaky and very The Hills Have Eye-ish.
- UFO Count: 0
Day 6:
- Woke up at about 6 a.m., ready to begin their day in Roswell. Checked out of their hotel.
- Realized there really wasn’t much to do in Roswell. Unable to locate anal probes.
- Drove through Roswell. Were disappointed due to the lack of interesting attractions and anal probes.
- Continued through Roswell and began heading towards Carlsbad, New Mexico.
- Reached Carlsbad at 11:30 a.m.
- Self Guided Tour of “The Big Room,” which is the main part of the cave. T noted that the cave is still being explored to this day. Cost=$6.00 per person! Jackpot!
- Decided against the 1.5 hour hike into the cave and rode the 50 second elevator instead. T began referring to Big A and ‘mangina’ as he was the main supporter of the elevator transportation.
- Weren’t allowed to touch anything in the cave and were told not to throw coins into the water. T cried as he had been determined to make a wish in the largest wishing well ever!
- Strolled through the cave. Took lots of picture of stalagmites and stalagtites.
- The Big Room is 8.8 acres large.
- Exited the cave, which was a cool 55 degrees and re-entered the blistering heat.
- T and Big A decided to head back early as they had seen everything on their itinerary! T won’t admit it, but I think it’s because he missed me so much.
- Had a rather uneventful drive back to Houston.
- Returned to Houston at approximately 10:00 p.m. Scared the crap out of J as J wasn’t expecting any visitors and didn’t expect them to be home until Tuesday!
And that, my friends…concludes MAN TRIP 2008! The guys had a great time and are all tourist-ed out.
I will post a wrap up interview with Big A and T tomorrow as well as some of their photos (they took almost 300!). And after that…I never want to hear about Man Trip ’08 ever again! No inside jokes, no reminiscing, no memorabilia, nothing!
J
