New Water Vessel

Remember way back when I did a post about plastic?  Oh..no?  You thought that was going to be a boring post so you decided not to read it.  It’s cool…I only hold grudges for three years.  I’ll get over it.  If you’re feeling guilty or the least bit curious you can read that post right here!

Ok…so it was a little dull. I can’t be a genius blogger every single day!!! It’s real hard.

Anywho…I’ve almost rid my life of those horrible plastic water bottles that leach brain eating spores into my innocent liquid of choice. I did keep one that is made out of the safer plastic, but I knew that I needed to find another solution to plastic. My main concern is that I tend to leave my water bottles in my car. The temperature inside my car gets high enough to compete with the surface of the sun. When plastic (the good kind or the bad) gets hot it starts to melt. Of course I’ve never noticed that my water bottles were melting, but I know that deep on the inside there were chemicals leaching out of the plastic. Even if it’s a ’safe’ plastic, I’m sure that it was still bad to use them after they’d baked in my car.

I did a little searching and found these!

Klean Kanteen

Like every Klean Kanteen, it’s made of 100% recyclable, high-quality, food grade stainless steel so it doesn’t need a special lining like some other metal bottles. It’s completely BPA-free and won’t leach chemicals, toxins, or funky flavors into your water, juice, smoothie, or drink of choice. Plus it weighs only 8 oz. and is incredibly durable, so you can reuse it for years.

The large-mouth design allows you to pour in big stuff like ice cubes, and makes cleaning your Klean Kanteen as simple as washing it with mild soap and warm water or throwing it in the dishwasher. Plus the slim design fits into just about any cup holder or Kanteen® bike cage.

Day after day, year after year, your Klean Kanteen will keep your drinks fresh, crisp and clean tasting

Yes…that information was copied directly from the website. But I would have said the same thing had I been able to think of it.

They aren’t the cheapest water vessels out there, but I plan on having mine for many years to come. Unless I lose it. I tend to lose things.

I purchased two (one for me and one for T) of the 27 oz. kanteens with the sport top. I wanted to get the cool, funky colors but something got mixed up in the order (aka: I screwed up) and I ended up getting two of the stainless kanteens. They’re cool though. Very industrial looking.

Pros:

  • They will never leach chemicals into my beverage of choice.
  • Very cool looking.  I feel cool using it.
  • The sport top is great as it doesn’t leak like a lot of the cheaper water bottles do.  And yes, I did the whole Nalgene bottle in college, but it’s a serious pain in the ass to take the lid off every time you want a sip.  You don’t have to suck very hard to get the liquid out.
  • There are plenty of sizes, colors, and lids available to meet all of your hydrating needs. There are even baby bottles!
  • They can be used over a campfire or stove to heat liquids.
  • Keeps beverages nice and chilly.
  • Easy to clean.  There aren’t a bunch of grooves for mold to get stuck in.  Yes, I have drank from mildewey water bottles.  They were moldy even after a washing.  But then again, I’m not a good washer.  Whatev.
  • Recyclable!
  • Fits in my cup holder.
  • Could be used as a deadly weapon if need be.

Cons:

  • It gets REALLY cold when you put ice water in them.  Like too cold to hold onto cold.  But the company has these cute little bags you can put them in.  *Xmas gift alert*  (Marketing genius right there)
  • They perspire a lot.  This is of course due to their extreme coldness.  Another reason why you need the cute bag for it.
  • I kinda wish there was a 20 oz. size.  I felt like the 18 oz. would be too small and the 27 oz. that I have is a little too big.  I usually mix the Crystal Light stuff in and it calls for 16 oz. of water, but I always mix it with 20 oz. so it’s not as strong.  But now I have a 27 oz. so it’s a little too dilluted.  Ok…that was very unnecessary for me to share that with you.  Moving on…
  • Umm… that’s about it.

I love my Klean Kanteen!  I don’t know why I bothered buying one for T.  He doesn’t really do anything that requires the ability to hydrate on the go.  But I’m sure someday he will be grateful that I purchased it for him.  On second thought….I need to check and make sure he hasn’t sold his on Amazon!

*If you do order one, make sure you take advantage of the cool colors!

Colors!!!

Colors!!!

And then when you see my with my boring stainless one you can point and laugh and tell your friends how much cooler you are then me.  It’s OK, really.

UPDATE:  Holly asked the obvious question, “How much did it cost?”  Duh.  I always leave out the important details.  I ordered two for $33.90 (not including Tax & Shipping).  I think the total was about $44.00.

Also note that I just realized that I had been typing KLEEN instead of KLEAN.  And the website link I have you didn’t work.  Dang it!!!  But it’s fixed now so you have all the correct information!  We only deliver the facts here at PLSF…yeah right!  ;)

  1. I have one too! (I bought the 18 oz one, but now I might get a bigger one and use this one for the gym.)

There is, however, one possible con that you didn’t mention: it’s made in China :-(

  2. The colored ones are way cooler than the boring aluminum ones we have.

  3. How much????? Forgot to mention the price!!!!!
